KNOW YOUR HISTORY:
KNOW YOUR HISTORY: The Essence Music Festival The Essence Music Festival, is an annual music festival which started in 1994 as a one time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Essence Magazine. A magazine aimed primarily towards African-American Women. It is the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States. Locally referred to as The Essence Fest, it has been held in New Orleans, Louisiana every year since 1994 except for 2006, when it was held in Houston, Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. The Essence Fest features artists simultaneously performing in the New Orleans Super Dome with one Main Stage and Four Standing Room Only Super Lounges.
Darron Wheeler's Take:
The Essence Music Festival is Hands Down a can't miss event. The Beautiful African American People who touchdown in New Orleans every year become family. I often refer to it as One Big Black Family Reunion. The People, The Food, The Vibe, The Culture, The Music, The Convention Center, The SuperDome, The Hotels and most of all, The Parties are second to none. There is nowhere in the world will you get that many African American People in one place at the same time and have as much fun as you do at The Essence Fest. If you been before you know what I mean, If this is your first time, get ready for the time of your life...
